Cheryll
Hillier, is a native of Manchester, England, where she first learned Bowen
therapy in 1996.
She lives near Orlando,
Florida with her husband
David and their three cats.
In l992 after being involved in the British film and
TV production industry for 20 years,
Cheryll decided to study massage at the London Regent’s Park College of
Homeopathy,
and in l993 was awarded the I.T.E.C. (International Therapy Examining
Council) diploma in Therapeutic Massage.
Failure by several other traditional and alternative
therapies to help her own injuries led her in l994 to try the Bowen Technique
therapy which originated in Australia.
After the technique successfully treated her, and subsequently
David’s pain, they both decided to study Bowen therapy with Julian Baker
in the UK (now head of the European College of Bowen Studies, and former
UK Coordinator of the Bowtech Academy of Australia)
After moving to the
US in 1997, Cheryll and her husband, David, opened a Bowen therapy
practice in Maitland, Florida, and it was during this period that she
met and became a student of
Milton Albrecht CMT, of Auburn, CA., who founded Bowen Therapy International (BTI)
and was the first Bowen practitioner to be certified in the US.
According to his wife Deni
Larimore-Albrecht, Milton was "immediately struck by Cheryll's adept finesse of
Bowen therapy", and during one of his
Advanced Bowen seminars,
Milton invited Cheryll to become a Certified Instructor in the Technique.
He continued to mentor Cheryll's discerning skills up until his sad passing in
2003.
Nationally
and Florida State Certified in Massage therapy in the US, Cheryll has
built a very busy and popular BOWEN THERAPY practice in the
Altamonte Springs,
Orlando area. Since seeing
the results of this extraordinary modality, she has devoted herself to
the singular practice of pure Bowen therapy as originally developed and
taught by the late
Tom Bowen
of Australia.
Cheryll was originally a member of the Bowtech Academy of Australia,
whose director Ossie Rentsch was one of a small group of people
personally selected to work with Tom Bowen, which he later documented
and taught to Milton Albrecht, Julian Baker and Dr JoAnne Whitaker.
She and
David
were also involved in teaching the Bowen Therapy,
working closely with their long-time friend and colleague, JoAnne Whitaker, M.D.
(Bowen Research and Training Institute)
up until 2008, when Dr. Whitaker
unfortunately passed away, following a long period of ill-health.
Cheryll
today teaches the Bowen Technique in Central Florida, based on Milton
Albrecht's interpretation of Tom Bowen's work.
The
technique is a wonderful hands-on modality geared towards healing and
medical professionals, but there are no pre-requisites for training, and
everybody is welcome.
Classes commonly comprise medical and non-medical professionals,
technicians, students and retired people.
Bowen
Therapy can be easily learned and
classes
are designed around the use of copyrighted materials.
